EUROPEAN SOCIETY FOR
THE STUDY OF COGNITIVE SYSTEMS
20th ANNUAL WORKSHOP, 29-31 August 2003
Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany

The 20th workshop will take place in Freiburg im Breisgau,
Germany from Friday 29 August, 10 hours (10 a.m.) to Sunday
31 August in the afternoon, depending on the number of
papers. There will be a welcome party on Thursday 28 August,
from 18.00 hours (6.00 pm.). It will be possible to stay from
Thursday 28, and to leave on 1 Sept.

The aim of the annual workshops is the exchange of knowledge,
information, and opinions on all aspects of cognition and
related topics, with emphasis on exchanges between
different disciplines involved. Papers may be either of a
general kind, or specific, but with sufficient attention for
the general aspects, and understandable for the audience
from a wide variety of disciplines. The following disciplines
belong explicitly to the scope of the workshop:
- psychology (cognitive, developmental), perception,
- artificial intelligence (general aspects),
- associative memory and neural networks, neuroscience,
- linguistics (also computational), disorders of language,
- education and instruction,
- philosophy, history of concepts.
Experimental papers should be placed within a theoretical
framework. Papers accepted for the workshop may be
published in the journal of the ESSCS, 'Cognitive Systems'.

The scientific meetings will take place in the 'Conference
Centre Waldhof', on the outskirts of Freiburg. Accomodation
will be available in convenient single and double rooms.
Rooms: Euro 27-40 dependent on the room.

Full accomodation, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner
is Euro 60-70 per person per night/day, depending on the room.

Freiburg can be reached by train and by car; the
nearest international airport is Basel-Mulhouse (exit via
France, then by German bus in about one hour to Freiburg).
Please send abstracts of papers as soon as possible.
Last-minute participation is possible if room is available,
but the number of papers is limited to 24, and the number
of participants to about 40.

Length of abstracts: between 20 and 40 lines (1-2 kByte),
to be sent by E-mail (preferably textfile).
Registration fee 30 Euro for members of the ASoCS/ESSCS,
40 Euro for others, students 15 Euro.

In order to avoid the relatively high costs of international
money transfers, we ask you to send a fax or letter with the
authorization to charge your credit card. The fax should read:

"I hereby authorize the European Society for the Study of
Cognitive Systems, or the Austrian Society for Cognitive Science,
to charge my credit card from 29 August 2003 for the amount
of ... Euros, as a fee for the participation in the 20th ANNUAL
WORKSHOP (Freiburg 29-31 August 2003), and for accomodation
(if appropriate)."

State the appropriate (or approximate) amount in figures and in text:
€ 30 (thirty) Euros for members,
€ 40 (fourty) Euros for non-members,
€ 15 (fifteen) Euros for students.

Rooms and full accomodation (all prices in Euro's):
€ 27 Single room,
€ 33 Double room with shower and toilet, per person,
€ 41 Double room used as single room with shower and toilet.
€ 60-70 Full accomodation (price depending on the room),
including breakfast, lunch, dinner, (and coffees) per person per night/day.

Reservations made for accomodations which have to be payed
by the workshop organisation will be charged.

(Our block booking is valid until 15 May 2003), after that date
the rooms may be used for other persons, and we do not have to pay).
Further the fax must contain the number of the credit card, the
expiration date, and the address of the owner of the card (for
the administration of the card).

For safety we recommend that you leave out the last four digits
of the card number, and send these separately by E-mail to
